Caliber Collection
Handcrafted wooden ammo crates sized for your favorite calibers — 9mm, 5.56, and 7.62 / .308 — with your choice of black or stainless lockable hardware and optional Armor Core™ interior liner. Built in Florida by Freedom Crate Co. for real use at the range, in the truck, or on display.
Handcrafted ammo crates with a mission
Each Caliber Collection crate is built one at a time in Florida by Freedom Crate Co. — routed, assembled, sprayed, and stenciled by hand. The design is inspired by classic military surplus crates, with caliber-specific markings (for example, “9mm Ball M882 – 1000 RDS”) and lot numbers for authenticity and tracking.
A portion of every Caliber Collection sale helps fund The Final Salute Project, our effort to gift custom keepsake boxes to recently retired U.S. veterans. When you pick up one of these crates, you’re not just buying storage — you’re helping honor someone’s service.
Armor Core™ interior (optional upgrade)
Choose the optional Armor Core™ Interior for maximum protection. This is a deep-penetrating epoxy treatment that soaks into the grain and hardens inside the wood fibers, creating a rigid, moisture-resistant shell on the inside of the crate. It’s designed to stand up to:
- Humidity and moisture changes
- Oil, carbon, and cleaning solvent from range gear
- Everyday dings, drops, and impact
Armor Core is our toughest interior system so far — built for people who actually use their gear.
Dimensions
- Exterior: Approx. 14" L × 11" W × 9" H
- Interior storage: Approx. 11" L × 9" W × 5 7/8" H
- Calibers sized for: 9mm, 5.56 / .223, and 7.62 / .308 (box size is shared; markings are caliber-specific)
Construction & hardware
- Material: 3/4" exterior-grade plywood — strong but lighter than solid timber for easier handling
- Finish: Flat olive drab / service green, hand-sprayed for a rugged, low-glare look
- Stencils: Caliber-specific markings (e.g., “9mm Ball M882 · 1000 RDS”) applied in small batches
- Lot number: Freedom Crate Co. lot marking for authenticity (varies by batch)
- Lid: Reinforced slat-style lid with raised rails that double as a small staging surface
- Bottom panel: 1/4" sanded plywood, glued and screwed into a full perimeter frame
- Legs: Stackable support legs are secured using eight 1.25" SPAX® screws (two per leg) for exceptional holding power and long-term durability. The legs are designed to be just slightly taller than the lid, so when stacked, the weight of the crate above rests on the legs — not the lid.
- Screw-built construction: SPAX® fasteners are also used throughout the crate body to reduce racking and increase structural strength — where true surplus crates traditionally use nails, we upgrade to screws for superior longevity and holding power.
- Handles: Heavy steel D-ring folding side handles for confident carry
- Hardware options: Black steel or stainless steel lockable toggle latches
- Hinges: Stainless tri-fold rear hinges
- Interior: Raw wood or Armor Core™ epoxy-sealed interior (no interior corner brackets on this model)
Built to work at the range (and look good in the man cave)
- Stackable leg design protects the lid during stacking — the upper crate rests on the legs, not the lid.
- Raised lid rails create a handy staging surface for mags, tools, or a notebook.
- Lockable latches accept small padlocks for extra peace of mind.
- Great for ammo and range gear, tactical tools, or as a rugged display piece.
- Makes a solid gift for gun owners, veterans, or collectors who appreciate functional art.
- Free U.S. shipping; some orders may ship in two packages (both tracking numbers provided).
