Before you place an order
How catalog availability, build timing, payments, and promotion codes work.
Where can I buy an official Freedom Crate?
Freedom Crate Co. catalog products are sold directly through FreedomCrateCo.com. Custom projects begin through the custom-request form and are only accepted after the scope, price, shipping, and estimated timing are confirmed.
Are the products in stock or made to order?
Most current catalog products are made to order, personalized to order, or built in small batches. The availability label on the product page describes the current status. A finished item may occasionally be available sooner, but customers should not assume immediate shipment unless the product page or written confirmation says so.
How long will my order take?
Build time varies with the product, workshop schedule, material supply, selected options, and order volume. Build time is separate from carrier transit time. Custom quotes include an estimated build schedule before work begins. Contact the shop before ordering when a specific deadline matters.
Does placing an online order guarantee it will be accepted?
Most valid catalog orders proceed normally, but Freedom Crate Co. may cancel and refund an order because of a pricing or listing error, suspected fraud, unavailable materials, shipping limitations, an unsafe or unlawful request, or an inability to complete the order as submitted.
How are payments handled?
Online payments are completed through Stripe-hosted checkout. Freedom Crate Co. receives the order, customer, shipping, and payment-status information needed to fulfill the purchase, but the website does not intentionally store full payment-card numbers.
How do promotion codes work?
Enter the code in the cart before checkout. A promotion is not final until the site validates it. Codes may have expiration dates, product exclusions, usage limits, or combination rules, and they have no cash value.
Products, fit & options
What the crates include and how they differ
Important answers about contents, measurements, capacity, Armor Core, hardware, and handmade variation.
Does the crate include ammunition, a firearm, or the items shown inside it?
No. Unless a product page expressly says otherwise, the purchase includes the wooden crate and the selected crate options only. Ammunition, firearms, magazines, tools, padlocks, range equipment, keepsakes, and other photo or video props are not included.
Are Freedom Crates made to be used or only displayed?
They are built as functional wooden storage and organization products, not just decorations. Customers use them for boxed ammunition, range gear, keepsakes, garage or shop organization, military-inspired display, and other appropriate storage. They should still be protected from conditions beyond the materials and finish described for the product.
What is the difference between exterior and interior dimensions?
Exterior dimensions describe the overall outside size of the crate. Interior dimensions describe the usable space inside after accounting for wood thickness, lid construction, hardware, dividers, and other components. Use the interior measurements when deciding whether a specific item will fit.
Are the listed dimensions exact?
Measurements labeled approximate may vary slightly because each product is handcrafted and because wood thickness, sanding, finish, and assembly create normal production tolerances. Contact the shop before ordering when a fit must be exact.
Why can ammunition capacity vary?
Capacity depends on caliber, ammunition brand, factory-box dimensions, loose versus boxed ammunition, packaging orientation, dividers, and loading method. Capacity statements and example loadouts are practical estimates, not a guarantee that every brand or package will fit in the same quantity.
What is Armor Core™?
Armor Core is an optional reinforced protective interior used on eligible products. Depending on the crate, it uses an epoxy-reinforced coating designed to improve interior durability, moisture resistance, and protection from grit, oil, wear, and repeated range use. It improves protection but does not make a wooden crate waterproof, fireproof, or climate-controlled.
Which hardware finishes are available?
Available options depend on the product. Many catalog crates offer black or stainless lockable hardware, while certain designs use a specific latch, hinge, nylon handle, steel folding handle, or slide-top construction. The configurator on each product page shows the options currently available for that crate.
Does lockable hardware make the crate a safe?
No. Lockable latches can accept an appropriate customer-supplied lock when the product is designed for one, but a wooden crate is not a certified safe, vault, childproof container, or approved firearm-storage device unless a product page expressly states otherwise.
Will my crate look exactly like the photographs?
The overall design and selected options will match the product description, but natural wood grain, knots, texture, paint, stencil placement, dimensions, and finish can vary slightly. Equivalent or upgraded hardware may also be used when sourcing changes without reducing the intended function or durability.
Custom builds
Turning an idea into a written quote
What the shop can customize, how requests are accepted, and what happens when plans change.
Can I request custom stenciling or personalization?
Yes. Custom markings can include approved wording, caliber information, branch-inspired designs, names, dates, insignia, or other artwork that can be converted into a practical stencil or application. Complexity, size, placement, preparation, and the number of markings can affect pricing.
Can Freedom Crate Co. build a completely custom size or design?
Full custom builds are considered when the design, materials, schedule, price, and shipping are practical for the shop. Include exterior dimensions, intended contents, hardware, finish, markings, quantity, deadline, and reference files in the custom-request form.
Does submitting the custom form guarantee acceptance?
No. A submission is a request for review and a quote; it does not place an order or charge a payment method. Freedom Crate Co. may decline projects outside the shop's capabilities, schedule, shipping limits, safety standards, or practical price range.
Can I send a logo, insignia, photograph, or artwork?
Yes, when you own the material or have permission to use it for the project. Do not submit copyrighted, trademarked, private, or restricted content that you are not authorized to provide. The shop may decline content that appears unlawful, infringing, deceptive, hateful, threatening, unsafe, or impractical to reproduce.
Can I cancel a custom build?
A custom build may be canceled for a full refund before building begins. After building begins, any available refund is prorated for labor completed and materials already used or committed, and an applicable restocking fee may be assessed. The deductions are explained before the cancellation is finalized.
Can a completed custom build be returned after delivery?
No. Completed custom and personalized builds are non-returnable after delivery because they were produced for the approved customer specifications. Shipping damage, an incorrect item, or a confirmed workmanship issue is reviewed separately.
Shipping, returns & problems
After the order is placed
Where free shipping applies, how returns work, and what to do when a package arrives damaged or incorrect.
Is shipping free?
Standard shipping is included for active catalog products and most custom orders delivered within the contiguous United States. Alaska and Hawaii require a separate shipping quote.
Can a large custom build have a shipping charge?
Yes. An unusually large or heavy custom project may require paid shipping based on the final packaged dimensions, weight, destination, and carrier cost. That charge is included in the written quote and approved before payment or building begins.
Do you offer local pickup?
Local pickup is not guaranteed, but it may be possible by prior arrangement for certain Florida orders. Contact Freedom Crate Co. before ordering so availability, timing, and the pickup process can be confirmed.
What is the return policy for a standard catalog item?
An eligible standard, non-custom item may be returned within 14 days of delivery when it is unused, in its original condition, and packaged safely for return. The customer pays ordinary return shipping. The refund is processed after the item is received and inspected.
What should I do if my order arrives damaged or incorrect?
Contact the shop promptly with the customer name, order or payment reference, photographs of the shipping box, photographs of the product, and a description of the issue. Keep the product and all packaging until the claim is reviewed and instructions are provided.
What happens if a shipment is delayed?
Build time and carrier transit time are separate. Carrier delays can occur after a package leaves the workshop. When Freedom Crate Co. learns that an unshipped paid order cannot meet the stated schedule, the shop will communicate the delay and provide the options required by applicable law.
Care & responsible use
Keeping a wooden crate in working condition
Basic care, environment limits, and the customer's responsibility for safe storage.
How should I care for my Freedom Crate?
Wipe the crate with a soft dry or lightly damp cloth, then dry it promptly. Avoid soaking the wood, pressure washing, harsh solvents, prolonged rain, standing water, extreme heat, open flame, and excessive humidity. Inspect handles, latches, hinges, fasteners, and the finish periodically and stop using damaged hardware until it is repaired or replaced.
Can I leave the crate outdoors?
Freedom Crates should not be treated as permanent outdoor containers unless a product page expressly describes that use. Exterior-grade materials and protective finishes improve durability, but prolonged weather exposure can still affect wood, coatings, hardware, stencils, and the contents.
Are the crates waterproof or fireproof?
No, unless a specific product page expressly says otherwise. Armor Core improves interior durability and moisture resistance on eligible products, but it does not make the crate waterproof, fireproof, climate-controlled, explosive-resistant, or impact-rated.
Can I use a Freedom Crate to store ammunition or firearms?
Many products are designed for boxed ammunition, range gear, or military-inspired storage, but the customer is responsible for following ammunition and firearm manufacturer instructions and all laws and safety requirements that apply where the product is used. A wooden crate is not a substitute for a legally required safe or approved storage device.
How much weight can the crate carry?
Load limits vary by product, size, material, joinery, handles, hardware, and how the weight is distributed. Do not overload the crate, lift it by damaged hardware, or assume a decorative or custom configuration has the same capacity as another product. Contact the shop before ordering for an unusually heavy load.
Mission & support
The people and purpose behind the order
How to reach the workshop and learn more about The Final Salute Project.
Who answers customer questions?
Freedom Crate Co. is a small independent Florida workshop. Messages are handled personally rather than routed through a large anonymous support center. Include the product name, order reference, relevant dates, and a clear description to help the shop respond efficiently.
What is The Final Salute Project?
The Final Salute Project honors U.S. military service through handcrafted keepsake crates for veterans, retirees, and families preserving the memory of loved ones who served. A portion of Freedom Crate Co. proceeds and community support help carry the mission.
How do I ask a question that is not answered here?
